Arizer Solo 3 vs Storz & Bickel Plenty (Now Phased Out): Portable Sessions vs Desktop-Sized Clouds

Short answer: the Arizer Solo 3 is a battery-powered handheld with a glass vapor path; the Storz & Bickel Plenty is a corded, tabletop-style hybrid with a big oven and a stainless-steel cooling coil. They serve different rooms of the house, and the Plenty has now reached the end of its production run, so the Solo 3 is the one you can build a setup around today.

The Plenty is not something we sell, so this comparison relies on Storz & Bickel-related coverage and retailer reporting. Our own product for this article is the Arizer Solo 3 V2.0.

Update: the Plenty is being phased out

Storz & Bickel's Plenty (introduced in 2011) and the Crafty+ are leaving the active lineup. Retailer Verdampftnochmal reports that production and regular distribution ended on 1 September 2026, describing it as portfolio streamlining rather than a recall or safety issue. Planet of the Vapes, writing in August 2026, said there was no firm end date or official announcement from Storz & Bickel yet and that remaining stock was still on sale. Both say warranty and support continue for units already sold. Storz & Bickel's own warranty page says the Plenty is excluded from its optional extra year, leaving the statutory two-year warranty.

For the full story, read our Journal article: Crafty+ and Plenty discontinued: what Storz & Bickel's lineup streamlining means.

What the Plenty is

The Plenty is a mains-powered device you hold by a handle. Reports describe a large oven (roughly a gram when fully packed), hybrid convection-and-conduction heating, a stainless-steel cooling coil, and an analog dial covering roughly 130–202 °C. The heater has to be periodically re-engaged by squeezing the handle, and heat-up takes a few minutes. Its appeal is very open airflow and a cool, smooth pull. Its limits are the need for an outlet, the amount of material a full oven needs, and the fact it is no longer being made.

What the Solo 3 is

The Solo 3 V2.0 is a rechargeable handheld. Arizer lists 5–15 second heat-up, an 80% convection / 20% conduction hybrid heater, Session and On Demand modes, and battery life of up to three hours (or 100+ On Demand draws). Vapor passes through glass, and the XL tubes double capacity compared with the original tubes, according to Arizer. It can go on the sofa, in a bag, or on the kitchen table.

Sessions and efficiency

The Plenty's design leans toward larger, shared sessions at home. If you only want a small load, you need a chamber reducer, and the wide-open airflow is happiest with a generous pack. The Solo 3 is far more flexible: pack a small stem for a quick session, or a larger XL stem for a long one, and use On Demand or Session Mode as you like. Its batteries are rated up to three hours, and it can be used while charging.

Cooling and vapor feel

The Plenty's coil does the cooling. On the Solo 3, cooling is something you choose. A dry cooling stem, spiral stem or ChillFlow XL stem adds cooling without water, and a side bubbler or multi-fit WPA adds water filtration. See the cooling stems and water bubblers collections.

If you want desktop-style sessions at home

If the reason you were looking at the Plenty was home-base sessions, there are current alternatives on our shelves:

  • the Solo 3 V2.0 with a water tool for a home setup;
  • the Arizer XQ2, a desktop convection device with whip and balloon delivery;
  • the Storz & Bickel Volcano Hybrid or Volcano Classic for a balloon-style desktop routine.

If you already own a Plenty and need consumables, our screen set listed for Crafty, Mighty, Plenty and Venty may help, so check the fit on the product page.
